I got started in residential treatment care on a whim. A friend was working in the field and offered to help me get a job at his place of employment. Since I was essentially unemployed and desperate, I said what the heck. Although my education was in professional writing, I applied and was hired ... and fell in love with this line of work.
This blog entry explains my first (post-paperwork, post-fingerprinting, post-orientation) day on the job:

My experience in residential treatment care has been a mixed bag. I've enjoyed working with the kids but have always thought more can practically be done for their welfare. That's why I've co-founded the Healing Embrace resource—to enhance the care that child abuse and neglect victims receive.
Thanks,
David
